I wrote this for Last Year's Xmas Fanfic contest and got 3rd for it. Since it has Evan in it, i figured i should post it here too, since its pretty empty here. so yupps, enjoy!
Title: Dear Mr Santa
"How many times do you want me to say this? Santa Claus DOES NOT EXIST! So stop wasting all your time and effort thinking he'll grant your wish or whatsoever!" I exclaimed.
"Then how do you explain the presents I received in my Christmas socks when I was younger?”
"That’s just some lame old shit your parents did to make you think that Santa came!”
Silence. Uh oh
Lynnie stared at me, tears welled up in her eyes. Then she turned and stomped off.
Dang it. Of all things why did I have to say that?
Well, you see, the “P” word is an extremely sensitive word to us --- kids in the Society of the Abandoned a.k.a the Orphanage.
My parents abandoned me when I was 2, I think? Lynnie’s parents died in a car accident 3 years ago. So she was sent to join me, and the rest of the other kids, here in a tiny red brick orphanage in Boston.
"You know the P word is banned here Mal, why did ya have to say it? Especially to Lynnie.” Emily reprimanded me, “ and especially when tomorrow’s the concert. And especially when YOU are going with her.”
Oh gosh. I totally forgot all about it! It was 2 days before Christmas Eve and 1 day before Avril Lavigne’s concert here in Boston. dang it.
"Ok, I’ll go apologise.” I said reluctantly and dragged my feet to Lynnie’s room.
"Hey, I’m sorry ok. I know I shouldn’t have said all that. Well, tomorrow’s the concert, so I don’t wanna fight with ya. Forgive me aites? Lynnie please open the door.” I stood outside her room, feeling like an asshole.
Being impatient by nature, I turned the knob and entered. An empty room with pieces of paper on the floor greeted me.
Ok, damn. Where is she?
I looked around the room to see if she could be hiding in the closet or under the bed, but to no avail. Dejected, I sat down on her bed. Some shreds of paper caught my eyes. As curiousity got the better of me, I picked them up.
It’s a torn piece of paper. I lifted two of them, in attempt to fix it like jigsaw puzzles. After 3 hours (ok, im totally kidding), after 3 minutes, with assistance from my wonderfully well-equipped brain cells, I managed to patch them up. It was a letter from Lynnie ------ to Santa.
" Dear Mr Santa Claus, I’ve been a really good kid this year. Please grant me this wish I wish that I would be able to meet Avril Lavigne and pass her Christmas present made by me personally. This would mean the whole world to me and I promise I’ll stay good for the rest of my life. With hugs and kisses, Lynnie PS: I believe in Santa! ”
I stared at the letter for a brief moment.
Then, I gave an evil smile.
"Sold out?! What do you mean sold out?!” I exclaimed.
"Well, according to the Oxford dictionary for advanced learners, it means that the last available has been sold or is used as an instance of betrayal. But using betrayal would be inappropriate in this context.” The ticket seller gave a cunning grin.
"Then there’s no other way for us to meet Avril?”
"My dear girls, its Miss A.Lavigne we’re talking about. The Meet and Greets were sold out on the day of sales itself. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, there’s no way you wouldn’t know since it’s all over the new. Or probably cause your parents haven’t let ya’ll read or watch the news. Haha~” he said, teasing.
Ok. This guy is getting on my nerves.
I couldn’t control it anymore and burst out “ for your info Mr Ticket Seller, it’s no longer Miss A.Lavigne but Mrs Whibley. Unless you’ve been living under a rock you should know since its all over the frigging news. And for your info, we DO live under a rock and we don’t fucking have any parents cause we’re from an orphanage! Opps, my bad, I forgot we’re from a rock. So thanks for your time and sorry to bother!”
I grabbed a dumb-founded Lynnie by her wrist, took my bag and stomped off.
I think he felt remorseful, cause he shouted from a distance away “ You can try the door from backstage, that’s where she’ll enter and exit from!”
There was an aura of sadness surrounding Lynnie. She hadn’t spoken since and I could tell she was paralysed by an arrow piercing through her heart. So naïve of me to think that I could grant her Christmas wish just by getting Meet and Greets. I guess what the ticket seller said was true, its Avril Lavigne after all.
Finally, after a long wait, the doors to the concert grounds were opened! Before the two of us could react, everyone around started pushing and shoving and rushing in. There was pandemonium. When we finally entered, it took only a second for us to realize that we were all the way at the backkkkkk. Center stage was a universe awayyy and im not exaggerating. Ok, maybe I am.
After what seemed like eternity, a voice from the speaker silenced the entire crowd.
"Helloooooooooo Boston!” and the music to Girlfriend started playing.
"Hell yeahhhhhh!~ that was the best concert I’ve ever been to!” I shouted in excitement and jumped in the air.
I took a peep at Lynnie. She was still as sad as before, except that now she was sweaty from all the jumping to Avril’s songs.
I’m not the kind of person who would want my friend to be disappointed, especially not since I’ve not given my best to help her get what she wants.
"Lynnie, erms. I’m gonna head back for awhile, left my *cough* back at the *cough*. You head back first aite!” and scurried off before she could utter a word.
I headed straight for the backstage door. Surprisingly, there was no one there. At all.
Ok, its either Avril has already left or that no one other than me knows that I can catch her here.
Out of the blue, the door creaked open.
"no I mean seriously, did you see the girl with the banner that says “ I <3 Evan?”, see, you’re doing not so bad yourself!” it was a very Very VERY familiar voice.
A blonde angel with pink streak in her hair appeared with the man of any girl’s dream and a horde of security from behind the door.
They seemed to be oblivious to my existence though.
"Come on Av, stop teasing me.” Evan said laughing and pushing Avril into a wall.
"Ouch! Heyyy~ Matt, arrest this suspicious man! He tried to assassinate me!” Avril joked and all of them started laughing.
Ok. I know im so gonna hate myself for interrupting.
"Avril! Avril! I really need your help for something really important to my friend. It’s her Christmas wish and I really wanna help her fulfill it. You see, we’re from an orphanage and we’ll be having Christmas Eve dinner tomorrow. Please I beg ya to listen to me. Come back! Oi! Hello!”
It was as if I said the word “BOMB”. The moment I called out her name, Matt and the rest of the security crew sprang to their feet and surrounded her, directing her to move on behind a wall further ahead. A barrier blocked me off. dang it.
"errrr, you said something bout Christmas Eve dinner?” Evan asked, drooling and standing there innocently.
Gosh! Evan David Taubenfeld! He’s still here. Weeeeeee~~
"Evan! Gosh, errrr yea, there’s a dinner at our tiny red brick orphanage tomorrow.” I replied, blushing.
"Tell me about it. Your friend’s wish or something you said?”
"It’s already 7pm Mal! Are you sure they’ll be here?” Emily asked in doubt.
"Yes! Evan promised me he’ll convince Avril to come or something. I’m very sure he’s a man of his word!” I replied impatiently, staring out of the window to an empty driveway.
"They’ve probably flew back to LA.” Emily said while passing me the turkey.
"They won’t be leaving till after Christmas” I said while placing the turkey on the table. "have ya told everyone?”
"yupps. All except Lynnie” and gave me a wink.
I looked at my watch – 7.23pm. gosh, where are they?
"I’m hungryyyyyyyy~~ can we eat already?” Lynnie asked, touching her belly.
Then, the smallest boy in the orphanage, Matthew, came running up to me.
"Mal! Mal! Mal!” and whispered in my ear “ They’re here! Outside!”
Lynnie looked at me with suspicion.
"Didn’t you say you’re hungry? Erm, go get the door will ya? It’s pizza delivery. We’re all buzehhh~” I instructed her.
"Fine, whatever~”
She walked up to the door mat, turned the knob and pulled open the red door.
"boy! Whose skateboard is that? It’s HOT! Can I play with it later? Oh, and we brought along some Limoncello.” Yes, that’s what our beloved Avril Lavigne said when Lynnie opened the door.
Oh, speaking of Lynnie. She just stood there, frozen in the gosh-I-opened-the-door-and-saw-Avril-Lavigne position.
"Hey Mal! See Avril, that’s the girl who was at the backstage yesterday.” Evan pointed - Teehee~ I blushed- and Avril smiled at me. Gosh my heart melted~ (still in the midst of solidifying.)
"Mal, don’t wake me up from this dream. Let me sleep forever.” A dumb-struck Lynnie said to me.
"You’re not asleep dumbo!” and slapped her in the ass.
"Ouch! That hurt you sicko!”
And after 5 seconds, “gosh! I’m not dreaming after all!” and turned to Avril
"hell…ll…ooo”
"Avril! Avril! Avril!” echoed all the kids in the orphanage and dragged her to the dining table. I pulled Evan and Matt – who came to protect Avril – in to sit.
All I could say was --- this was the Best Damn Christmas of my life.
After a sumptuous Christmas Eve dinner, Avril, Lynnie and some guys went out to skateboard. Evan played some songs on my guitar for Emily and I. Matt played with small Matthew because they felt a connection with the same name. Then there was an Evril performance after the sk8erbois and gals got exhausted. We held an autograph session and an unofficial interview with Avril. Lastly, it was countdown to Christmas!
Honestly, I still couldn’t believe it happened. Wow.
"Thanks a lot guys! That was like the bestttt night I’ve ever had since my birthday. Hahaha. Oh, and thanks for coming down for my show last night hahaha.” Avril said, referring to Lynnie and I. “ Awesome that I have fans like you guys. Haha. Cheers to ya’ll~” she continued, obviously a little drunk from the Limoncello.
Then Lynnie came up and handed Avril a guitar --- but this guitar was different--- the designs on the guitar were personally painted by Lynnie herself. Avril promised to perform with the guitar someday. Aww, so sweet.
Before they left, Evan and Avril gave me a hug. Gosh! If only I could stop time!
Matt gave a brotherly kiss on Matthew’s cheek and exchanged a high five. So a-d-o-r-a-b-l-e.
Yea, well, even Fairy Tales have to come to an end.
So they left, eventually.
"Dear Mr Santa Claus, for this Christmas, I’m not asking for anything because I already had my wish granted. Thanks a lot for blessing me with the Best Damn Friend in the world. I’ll still promise to stay good though! Merry Christmas Santa! xoxo Lynnie. ”
"You’re gonna send this to North Pole?” I asked.
"yea of course. I’ve already written it… duh?”
Sigh
"guess I still can’t convince you that Santa doesn’t exist?”
"Of course not! Cause I’ve witnessed it myself.” Lynnie smiled while lying on the floor beside the Christmas tree with me. "You’re my Santa Mal.”
