Evan Taubenfeld is an emerging artist gearing up for the release of his first album, Welcome to the Blacklist Club. Attempting to generate a viral buzz, Evan released "Starbucks Girl" today for free download. Originally, Evan wanted to use the website
tweetforatrack.com. This site allows the user to upload a song, and use Twitter to start a viral campaign for the song. People retweet the link for the song download, with the intention of spreading the song to thousands of people in a short amount of time. Unfortunately (depending on how you look at it), Evan's large fan based crashed the site, and Evan had to make different plans for releasing his song to the fans.
Through his Twitter account, Evan directed everyone to his
uStream. Here, he let everyone know they could obtain his song from
Friends or Enemies. All that he asked in return for the free download was for people to retweet
#StarbucksGirl. The goal is to get enough retweets to make
#StarbucksGirl a trending topic.
"Starbucks Girl" is a slight departure from Taubenfeld's usual sound. The song features many machine generated rhythms, and Evan's voice uses AutoTune extensively. According to Evan, he chose this style to have some fun. In one of his recent uStream broadcasts, he mentioned the extensive use of AutoTune by artists such as T-Pain and Lil Wayne and wondered, "Why can't I have a song like that?" The song is quite catchy and humorous. Check out the song and make sure to retweet
#StarbucksGirl. Also, check out the video tomorrow. Check back here for a review of the video.
